I feel like some Chinese Web Novels aren’t getting enough attention. So I’m highlighting Poison Genius Consort!
Legend of Yunxi was a cdrama that was loosely based off of this novel.
I say “loosely” because Chinese censors don’t take kindly to transmigration themes.
Or reincarnation. And when producers use these web novels as inspiration, they have to be creative on how much material they can use in their show.
If you’ve haven’t checked out Poison Genius Consort lately, read the synopsis below!
After transmigrating to the past, poisons expert Han Yunxi finds herself on the verge of being married off to the country’s second most powerful man, the Duke of Qin.
Her future life seems set–except her husband is an unfeeling ice block, her in-laws think she’s an eyesore, the empress dowager wants to use her for her own goals, and poison-related plots abound.
Alone, the intelligent (and sensible) Yunxi must carve her own space from the intricate web of court intrigue and the jianghu, relying on her words, wits, and wisdom to survive.
Adapt when necessary, use force when required; to survive and thrive is the name of the game to a prosperous life.
No matter what, she’ll prove her right to live! (sourceinfo: VolareNovels)
I think this was one of the very first Chinese web novels I read and it was super addicting! Not to mention loooooong.
In Legend of Yunxi, the male lead defrosts a lot quicker than the version in the web novel.
Those have read the web novel know what I mean. Yunxi goes through so much back-stabbing, schemes, etc. by herself.
And she’s definitely a strong female lead.
If you’re interested in reading, the translations are available here. (I don’t get any commission for referring you to VolareNovels).
But they did such a great job translating this novel as well as several other Chinese web novels so I don’t mind pointing them out.
So if you don’t know these translators already, give them a try!

I loved it!!! And I agree with what you wrote. I was soooo pumped that she was strong by herself. The web drama toned her down considerably but it was beautiful and still fun to watch despite the insane amount of changes.
Thanks for the comment! I was very happy to see the drama adaptation but then was bumped with how much they changed her so I dropped the series, are you reading any other web novels lately with strong female leads?
