More backstory of our main characters as they seek to find all the Yin Iron shards. In the Untamed episode 9, we see more of the Wen clan’s schemes and how they may have been the villains in the past.

Hope everyone had a nice Halloween! For those that celebrate it! Can you believe it’s almost the end of the year!???
I personally can’t wait until 2020 is done and over with, it’s been a crazy rollercoaster.
With the pandemic, dip in economy, etc. etc.
Okay enough about that, let’s discuss what happened in The Untamed episode 9!
Escaping the Trap
A huge horde of possessed human beings arrive at the only entrance/exit of the temple.
And break through the rusty door with ease.
Nie Huaisang tries to dodge as he gets attacked but struggles for help before Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji come to his rescue.
Then Wei Wuxian launches a spiritual web as a temporary blockade. But there’s no way out.
They can’t eradicate them because these villagers are actually still alive. Just puppets controlled by someone.
While the group hesitates on what their next steps should be, a calming tune echoes from out of nowhere and lures the human corpses in another direction.
It was Wen Qing.
The tune played by her flute calms the villagers down and they pause right in front of her.
But then a dire owl screeches from above. (It’s Wen Chao’s familiar.)
Meanwhile, a mysterious voice tells Wei Wuxian and his group not to leave. And it looks like the voice is coming from the previous moving Peri statue.
Nie Huaisang complains with fear. Thinking that the statue will attack them again.
But Wei Wuxian thinks the voice is oddly familiar when the mysterious voice starts to lecture Wei Wuxian.
Sheathing back his sword, Wei Wuxian then tells Jiang Cheng to show himself.
Or Lan Wangji will show his temper.
And Jiang Cheng reveals himself with a smirk.
He almost had them.
ahahaha Jiang Cheng is not as good as Wei Wuxian when it comes to pranks
Jiang Cheng nags about how much worry he has caused to their senior sister. While almost revealing how he was worried too.
haha such a tsundere Jiang Cheng, admit it, you think of him as a close brother
Then mentions how Wen Qing was able to help them out.
But she be in trouble now too.
Breaking the Influence
So the group rushes over to meet up with Wen Qing.
And they notice Wen Chao’s familiar flying around in the area.
The group tries to catch up with Wen Qing but then the human puppets move again.
And Lan Wangji uses a spell to temporarily hold them back.
It turns out that Wen Qing knows how to remove the influence on the human puppets.
They must kill the familiar who’s leveraging the iron seal to exert control over the villagers.
Lan Wangji tells Wei Wuxian to set up a protective net over Nie Huaisang, Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing while they chase after the familiar.
And Jiang Cheng is not pleased at all.
Because they will be sitting ducks for the human puppets in the meantime.
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian chase after the dire owl familiar into a forest. And lose their visibility because the dire owl releases a foggy mist that also causes hallucinations.
At this point, Wei Wuxian has gotten really used to addressing Lan Wangji as Lan Zhan (his birth name) and Lan Wangji also doesn’t mind addressing him as Wei Ying?
While those two are dealing with the familiar, the human puppets have surrounded Nie Huaisang, Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing.
And are attempting to pull apart the protective net.
Nie Huaisang panics and asks Jiang Cheng for help but he’s too busy dealing with his side to bother.
Wen Qing glances at someone familiar and feels remorseful.
Looks like she’s acquainted with this granny?
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji continue to battle the familiar with success (but Wei Wuxian had to offer himself as bait).
And end up slaying it. So they head back towards their group.
Wen Clan’s Backstory
It turns out Wen Qing is very familiar with the villagers.
And when Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji catch up with her and the group, they find they are just outside of a large burial mound.
Where Wen Qing’s clan members were buried.
It’s a sensitive topic so Wei Wuxian trends carefully. Asking if the shrine earlier was related to them.
So Wen Qing explains further. Commenting how she came from a branch of the main Wen clan family.
But they specialize in medicine.
However, one day there was an unforeseen tragedy.
Years ago, the dancing peri statue attacked her family members and tried to steal their souls.
So there’s just a few of them left.
Meanwhile, Wen Ruohan lectures his son, Wen Chao for making his own decisions.
Wen Chao reluctantly admits his wrongdoings and heads off to help Yue Yang.
Great parenting here… no wonder Wen Chao is such an arrogant prick
Later, Nie Huaisang points out some poultry they can capture so the group gets a brief break.
With Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian and Nie Huaisang attempting to capture the bird.
While Lan Wangji and Wen Qing hang back.
But later, Wen Qing tells Wei Wuxian that she helped them because he helped her brother so now they’re even.
Wen Qing and Jiang Cheng’s personalities are pretty similar, or is it just me?
And Wei Wuxian uses this opportunity to share his speculations about why the dancing peri statue started snatching human souls.
Because it’s related to a shard of the yin iron.
Strange Happenings
But Wen Qing doesn’t admit to anything because she owes Wen Ruohan a debt.
And leaves to head back to reunite with her brother.
The rest of them enter a new town to inquire about things happening in Yueyang.
The stranger, the better.
So it turns out there’s a Chang clan that mysteriously disappeared in one night.
All of the members.
However, at night, the doors bang from the inside with shrieks and screams coming from within.
Out of nowhere, the shard in Lan Wangji’s bosom reacts and Lan Wangji struggles to get the influence under control.
It’s best if they go over to check it out.
When Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng get closer to the Chang mansion, the shard reacts.
So they force the doors open and see that all of the members were slaughtered.
None were spared.
But what’s interesting was that these people were all made into human puppets before they were slaughtered.

Wow, more mysteries surrounding the origins of the yin iron. I can’t believe we’re still in the backstory though…. this show is a bit too slow for my tastes. T_T
Lan Wangji showed some concerned over Wei Wuxian’s neck from acting as bait? Or was I just imagining things? They are definitely becoming good friends XD
Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing possible ship? I feel like it may end in tragedy though T_T
Nie Huaisang is just like a copy of Wei Wuxian. No wonder they became friends so quickly XD
So I won’t be doing any more recaps on The Untamed. I really enjoyed the animation but can’t get into the drama for some reason.
It’s sad but this recap will be my last one for this series. Don’t let that stop you from watching this show though!
